Geotubes are geotextiles made by weaving various types of polypropylene monofilaments, either individually or in combination, and then cut and sewn into tubular bag bodies which possess filtration and water permeability functions. According to the type of geotextile, Polypropylene geotubes are classified into PP high-toughness geotubes, PP woven fabric geotubes, and PP filament woven geotextiles geotubes.

Product specifications of each type can be further classified into several series ranging from 50 to 300KN/m based on different nominal tensile strengths. PP resin is processed into flat filaments or continuous filaments through melting, extrusion, and drawing. This step determines the basic strength and toughness of the geotextile. We use virgin PP resin and strictly control the draw ratio to ensure monofilament strength, laying the foundation for the high-strength subsequent fabric.

Warping involves evenly and neatly winding hundreds of drawn warp yarns onto warp axis according to the process. The warping uniformity determines the fabric’s flatness and strength distribution. Our warping machine is equipped with an automatic tension control system that ensure consistent tension and uniform strength across every warp yarn.

Using a loom, the warp and weft yarns are interwoven into cloth to form a geotextile fabric with certain pore size, thickness, and strength. The weaving process determines the structural stability, equivalent pore size, and permeability of the fabric. We can adjust the warp and weft density, customize the equivalent pore size to balance soil retention and dewatering rate according to client requirements for pore size, weight and strength.

A inspection of the appearance and physical properties of the finished basis fabric is conducted, including broken threads, holes, stains, fabric width, weight, and density of warp and weft, etc. All basis fabric undergoes online testing and first-piece confirmation to promptly identify and eliminate substandard products, ensuring that the quality of the fabric entering the sewing process meets requirements.

According to the product parameters of customer requirement, multi-layer or single-layer raw fabric is sewn into a tubular bag shape using high-strength sewing techniques, and a filling tubes port is sewn onto it at the specified position. As the seam strength is the weakest link of geotube, we adopt 6-needle sewing method or special high-strength sewing process to ensure the requirement of seam strength.

Finished geotubes undergo a comprehensive inspection, including mechanical properties, dimensions, sewing quality, and labeling, etc., then are packaged and shipped only after passing the tests. We conduct quality inspections in strict accordance with relevant standards to ensure that the delivered products meet the requirements of the contract and technical documentation.

Geotube is a type of geotextile wrapping system, and its core feature lies in that the fabric has a specific equivalent pore size that allows water to flow out while effectively retaining solid particles. The working principle of geotubes can be summarized as a three-stage process: filling, dewatering, and consolidation.
Filling: The slurry, industrial sludge, or dredged materials to be treated is mixed with high-molecular flocculants in a certain ratio and then filled into the pre-laid geotubes using a high-pressure pump.
Dewatering: Solid-liquid separation is achieved through two key mechanisms of geotube: first, the fabric’s inherent pore structure, which intercept particles, and second, the pressure generated by the liquid inside the bag, which drives water to flow out through the fabric.
Consolidation: The solid matter remaining in the bag gradually compacts and solidifies under the continuous effect of gravity and drying, eventually forming soil-like mass that can be further treatment or resourcefully utilized. It can usually reduce the volume of solid matter in the bag by more than 90%.
Our geotubes products are made of 100% virgin polypropylene resin and never mixed with recycled materials. Avoid the problems of reduced strength and accelerated aging of recycled materials due to impurities.
The service life of PP geotubes is usually 10 to 20 years. The specific duration may vary significantly due to differences in usage environment, material quality, and construction and maintenance. For example, it may be used once for temporary projects such as sludge dewatering, while for permanent structures like coastal protection, its service life can exceed 50 years when installed embedded.
